Anonymous asked: rec me 10 albums you think deserve more exposure
this was actually really hard to do cause i’m not too sure what is super well known/canon and i think all my favorite albums deserve more exposure! but i guess you want more obscure stuff? some of these might be super well known but i just went through my itunes and found stuff that not everyone has listened to in my experience
nat birchall quintet- world without form
newish jazz from the north of england. really cool, spiritual and grand. lots of bass for a jazz album b/c nat birchall is a huge dub fan.
dadawah- peace and love
one of the most beautiful albums i’ve ever heard. long jams w/ tribal drumming that are covers of roots standards. dark but warm and soulful. transcendent. listen to this.
goreshit is like weeb internet lifestyle accessory shit i guess but so many of his albums are really good at communicating a kind of tranquility in loneliness and the need to reach out to someone. hard to explain. same vibe as burial but reimagined as crazy anime breakcore. give it a chance idk.
neat thing i found on this website i think. experimental sample drone-jazz-choral stuff. also very beautiful. i like loud music too idk why these are all so pretty so far.
japanese cartoon- in the jaws of the lords of death
this got a good amount of exposure because it’s lupe fiasco’s punk side project but before you run screaming away this album is actually awesome. feels like that bright urban jet set radio/gorillaz/kidrobot future that was the first thing i ever found cool.
lhf- keepers of the light
the wire and quietus and fact all jizzed their pants over this album but idk if that means real people listen to it. it’s really great. dense journey through hallucinatory blade runner london.
toumani diabate- new ancient strings
21 stringed african harp playing that will melt your face and float you into a dimension of pure sound and color.
sun ra- sleeping beauty
sun ra is super well known obvi but this album is kind of underappreciated. the great late night chill sun ra album, really funky and subdued and cosmic and awesome.
young smoke- space zone
got a good amount of exposure when it came out on planet mu but i think a lot of pre-double cup footwork gets forgotten quickly. this is a wild record though.
zeroh- g7 university
getting high and walking around los angeles listening to this is an experience everyone should have.
sorry i go overboard w/ this shit but thanks for the question!
honestly there’s a lot of fucked up things in the world that need fixing but people spend so much of their time arguing over them in their reality tunnels when they could be focusing on cool stuff like staying hydrated or spiritual jazz or aquariums or dogs
i just listened to jewels of thought by pharoah sanders and i sat on the floor and closed my eyes and it vibrated my thoughts out of my head or something and then when i opened them everything was all twisty fractals and stuff and i couldn’t focus on anything but the notes and then i kind of came slowly back down to earth but i was in some higher plane for a second that was wild as hell
